Waste Not Want Not
If you’ve been following us on Facebook then you know we have our Waste Free Wednesday posts where we love to share ideas to help you Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot (compost).
If you use lots of lemon and citrus fruit like I do then save your lemon peels for:
- Sprinkle some salt onto half a cut lemon and use it to scrub your pots and pans to make them shiny and new again.
- Sprinkle bi-carb all over your sink. Use a half a cut lemon as a scrubbing brush, scrub hard all over for a clean and sparkly sink.
- Secure a squeezed lemon half onto a prong in your dishwasher when loading the dishes. It will leave your dishwasher smelling fresh and clean.
- Use those peels to make your own Spray N Wipe. Save your peels in a jar in the fridge as you use them. When the jar is full, fill up with white vinegar until the peels are covered.
Store in a dark place for about four weeks, shaking the jar occasionally.
After four weeks, strain the liquid from the peels and using a funnel, pour the liquid into a spray bottle. Add a drop of dishwashing liquid, shake and use as needed.
For tough stains, sprinkle bi-carb on the surface first and then spray with your fabulous homemade spray and wipe.

Love these tips….I too use a lot of lemons and as the skins can’t go in the worm farm, it’s great to have a few suggestions about getting more out of them before tossing in the regular garbage. Thanks!
