Turkish Pasta

This Turkish-inspired pasta dish combines tender beef mince, creamy garlic yoghurt, and a rich spiced butter sauce for a comforting and flavourful meal. Simple to prepare yet deeply satisfying, it’s a perfect fusion of warm spices, fresh herbs, and creamy textures—ideal for a quick weeknight dinner or casual entertaining (serves 5).

Ingredients:

Mince
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 medium red onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, diced
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp cummin
  • 2 tbsp chilli flakes
  • 1 tsp sumac
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 500g pasta of choice
  • 500g cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Parsley to serve
Yoghurt sauce
  • 3/4 cup low fat Greek yoghurt
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic diced
  • Salt & pepper
Butter sauce – optional
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cumin
Method:
  1. Cook the Beef Mince: Heat a little olive oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the mince and cook, breaking it up, until browned. Add chopped onion, garlic, and herbs, and continue to cook until the onion is soft. Stir in ¼–½ cup of water and let it simmer for a few minutes. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Pasta: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to packet instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Make the Spiced Butter Sauce: Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add spices (e.g., paprika, chilli flakes) and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Place pasta in a bowl or on a plate. Top with garlic yoghurt sauce, followed by the beef mince. Drizzle over the spiced butter and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm.
Tip: Let the garlic yoghurt come to room temperature before assembling, this helps it spread more easily over the warm pasta and prevents it from splitting when topped with hot butter sauce.
