Recipe: Homemade French Onion Soup

Avoid the nasty’s found in packet products by making your own soup mix.  This is great for soup, flavouring casseroles and is also excellent for seasoning roasts.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup dried onion flakes
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp turmeric

Method:

  • Mix all ingredients together and store in a glass jar.
  • Use a 1/4 cup to 2 cups of stock to make soup.  Add some caramelised onions to your soup for extra flavour.
  • Make french onion dip by mixing a couple of tbsp with sour cream. Let sit for an hour or two in the fridge to allow the flavours develop.  Add more soup mix depending on your taste.
